Empowering Mother Nature
Plastic waste can last in our environment for hundreds, even thousands of years. Worry Free Plastics' (WFP) revolutionary patented organic agent enables naturally occurring microorganisms in landfills and oceans to consume plastic waste leaving behind no microplastics at end-of-life.
How It Works
WFP products are made with an agent of organic nutrients and compounds that are food sources for microbes in landfills, where our agent tricks the microbes into seeing plastic waste as food. Once plastic has been used, recycled and disposed of in a landfill, these microbes eat it up, leaving behind biomass (humus) and biogas. Humus fertilizes the soil and the biogas can be captured and converted to natural gas.
The Science
In a landfill, the WFP agent attracts microbes that start colonizing on the surface of the plastic. The enzymes secreted by the microbes render the plastic hydrophilic (water-loving). As a result, a film (bio-film) which is rich in microbes and moisture forms on and adheres to the surface of the plastic. Microbes then hydrolyze the plastic using secreted enzymes and water. As the individual polymer chains are broken down into single monomers, the microbes consume the polymer matrix. During this process, the microbes send out a signal, attracting more microbes to feed on the plastic mass. At the end, most of the CO2 and other materials formed during the earlier stages are consumed, leaving behind humus, and biogases which are captured for clean energy.
Yes!
WFP-treated plastics remain
recyclable and should always
be recycled when possible.
Super easy!
WFP’s agent is a “drop-in”
solution, added during the
manufacturing process of
products in the same way that
colorant is added. In fact, it can
be combined with your color!
No!
Microbes consume the product in its entirety never leaving microplastics at end-of-life.
During regular manufacturing, the WFP agent is blended (at 1% to the total) with plastic material. There is no change to the traditional manufacturing process or equipment thanks to WFP's ‘drop-in’ technology. It is added just like a colorant or can even be part of your colorant!
The plastic item is used without any
change to your existing process or
recycling actions. Consumers can
use a trash bag or produce shopping
bag worry free. After use, the
end-of-life process begins, whether
placed in a recycling bin or a regular
trash receptacle destined for your
local landfill.
Today, 91% of all plastic waste sits in
a landfill – the same place much of
your plastic waste will end up.!
Thanks to WFP technology, your
trash will biodegrade in a landfill or
ocean within three-to-five years,
leaving behind no microplastics–just
biomass and natural gas which
landfills collect as a clean fuel
source.
